A Wee Guy in Big Places

The sport of rodeo gets bigger every year according to International Rodeo promoter Craig Douglas, but it appears the cowboys are getting smaller! Wee man Shane Jones the 'Tiny Texan' has hit the big time after being accepted to compete at New Zealand's largest rodeo, thanks to a sponsorship by Big Ben Pies.
Weighing just 50kg, Shane will be dwarfed by a thousand kilograms of beef when he sits upon one of the ferocious bucking bulls in the line up for the bull riding competition at the International Rodeo in November.
It may seem it's all about size, but the 4 foot dwarf would tell you differently. Despite being hailed as the shortest cowboy in the Southern Hemisphere, he certainly has a long list of achievements including the 8 Second Midget grand title (2008) and the Ford Wrangler of the Year (2007).
Shane will be going up against some of the best rodeo competitors from across the globe, including Australia, USA, Canada and Brazil on November 14th at the International Rodeo in front of the 7,500 strong crowd. Shane will compete in bull riding but the event will also see the kiwis battling on the world stage in bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and barrel racing.
'Being the best big rodeo in New Zealand, it made sense to have the best little cowboy' says Douglas 'This event takes the sport to a level like never before, with sound & lighting effects, pyrotechnics, LPG flamethrowers and explosives which ensures a sold out stadium every year'. Tickets are now available from www.Ticketek.com and are already selling quickly, so those interested are urged to hurry, especially those who missed out last time!
Liaison officer Caela Brackenbury of Little People New Zealand (LPNZ) was reluctant to condone Shane's participation at the rodeo, raising concerns it would not be seen in a positive light.
The International Rodeo will be filmed for national TV and is expected to be broadcast on both national and international networks.
Adults tickets are priced from just $40, with front rows available for $100. For more information, check out www.rodeogp.co.nz

Party Hoppers Mobile Bars Hit Australia
Since the birth of Party Hoppers in New Zealand 2 years ago, the company has come a long way, now boasting national coverage and touching on the huge untapped market of Australia, since franchising for the first time just under 12 months ago.
Party Hoppers Australia was incorporated this month, by managing director Joel Steinberg, to purchase the Australian franchising rights. Joel is perfect for the role, having begun his career in hospitality and going on to own a number of hotels, before taking on the role of developing Party Hoppers in Australia.
The first Party Hopper mobile bar is due to land in Adelaide on 29th September, with the official launch in the beginning of October. There will be a lot of exciting stuff happening in the first few months of the Australian operation, so stay tuned to the official Party Hoppers Australia website www.partyhoppers.co.nzJoel is looking for two people to be the new faces of Party Hoppers in Australia – One guy and one girl to be in the national ad campaign, so applications are being taken now.
Things are progressing very quickly, with bars landing in South Australia first, followed closely by WA, with plans to be servicing every major state within twelve months. Franchises are available for sale throughout NZ and Australia, so applications are being considered now. If you think you can manage your own bar, please send your enquiries to info@partyhoppers.co.nz or info@partyhoppers.com.au

Next Event Press Release
Ice Hockey is a sport we all know about, but that few have seen in New Zealand. Labeled the fastest team sport in the world, hockey attracted over 11 million spectators to a game in USA alone in the 2007-2008 season, selling out stadiums in almost every town.
Christchurch based event management company Douglas Webber Group (DWG) has announced their successful bid to host games between world number ones, USA and Canada in Christchurch's Westpac Arena and Auckland's Vector Arena in July 2011. The amount of the bid was undisclosed, but company director Craig Douglas said "It's hard to grasp the enormity of these national teams (USA & Canada), which sell out stadiums of 20,000 people every night. For them to be here in New Zealand is a massive privilege, and not a decision made financially, as much as to promote the sport down-under".
In the words of sportswriter Jimmy Cannon, "A puck is a hard rubber disc that hockey players strike when they can't hit one another". The infamous rivalry between these two nations won't be left at home when game night rolls around and let's face it, some hard hitting action never goes astray!
In 2007 DWG hosted New Zealand's first International Rodeo, for a sold-out arena of over 7,000 spectators, and the attraction to hockey has stemmed from there. While the parallels between the sports seem unclear at a glance, once again in a NZ first, DWG will be taking an extreme sport with the best competitors the globe has to offer and showcasing their competition on the grand stage before thousands of onlookers, with every added effect they can dream of, including sound and lighting effects, LPG flamethrowers and pyrotechnics.
The games will be filmed for international television and screened in 27 countries. Spectators will also enjoy live coverage at the events, to ensure no move is missed with close-ups and action replays on the big screens.
Tickets are due to be released in February 2010 and are expected to cost between $65 and $100. They will be available for the Christchurch show at Ticketek, and for Auckland at Ticket Master. More information is available at www.douglaswebber.co.nz

2008 International Rodeo Goes Global
Promoters of the 2008 International Rodeo announced today that this years Rodeo to be held at the Westpac Arena as the finale to New Zealand Cup & Show Week will play on American TV giant FOX SPORTS and is expected to be watched by over 100 million viewers across the USA.
Promoter Craig Douglas announced today that he has been working on the TV contract for some months and that last year his production made it to sister company FOX 9 USA. 'Our goal would be to have our New Zealand International Rodeo played on global giant ESPN but that is a few years away,' he said with a smile.
The International Rodeo is New Zealand's only indoor event of its kind and is held on November 15th. For one night only 39 of the world best cowboys and cowgirls from the USA, Canada, Australia, Brazil and New Zealand merge on the city of Christchurch and battle for world rodeo domination in a winner takes all prize pool. Last year's International Rodeo sold out in record time and already this year’s event is well over 50% seated already.
Douglas said that it is not just the bulls and horses that keep people entertained but the entire event and that the international Rodeo is a world class performance of epic proportion. 'We continually strive to entertain everyone from the children to the retired cowboys, entertainment for the entire family.' One of the major new attractions to this year's International Rodeo will be live music from country music legend Brendon Dugan and the Lost Legends Tour plus 300kgs of LPG propelled pyrotechnics, the Wrangler Cheerleaders and the return of 8x International Bull Fighting Champ Matt Darmody.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Douglas has started plans for the first ever Tri-Nations World Cup and plans to hold this event in Auckland over the weekend of Fieldays in 2009. 'Rodeo is a very entertaining sport,' Douglas said, 'and one of the fastest growing spectator sports in the world. The action is intense and very fast, you are always on the edge of your seat and you never know what is going to happen next. My goal is to do to rodeo what Elvis did to rock n roll so watch this space!'

Party Hoppers is a New Zealand owned and operated company, founded by the Douglas Webber Group in January 2007, with a view to being franchised throughout New Zealand and Australia by the end of 2009.
Party Hoppers are the ultimate bar set-up, ideal for any occasion, providing a professional service, second to none, complete with everything you need for your event from beer, wine and spirits, to staff, licenses and security.
The bar comes complete with everything you need to impress your guests with an amazing line of drinks and cocktails, chilled to perfection in the commercial display chillers. The bar is plumbed with hot and cold water, and wired with a stereo system and LCD TV.
Success has come quickly to the company, partly due to established networks within the events industry but most significantly due to what is named the 'bar partnership scheme' which gives event promoters the ability to contract the bar out, freeing up time to focus on the main event, whilst maintaining a significant percentage of profit, far exceeding what's on offer from existing catering companies.
Whatever the event, Party Hoppers will give it the point of difference to be remembered. Anything from a public event of thousands, to corporate functions and private parties. Party Hoppers also make a great cost effective bar solution to weddings, and countless other special days.
Party Hoppers now cater for events across New Zealand, with franchisees spanning the country, and has also expanded into Australia, which is expected to have services available in all Australian States by 2010.
